The main goal of the English Language Arts program is to teach students English language literacy skills. These skills are primarily expressed in the ability to effectively read, write, listen and speak.

I love reading and teaching reading at Claremont! My goal is to help all children become strategic and motivated readers and writers. A few of my favorite children’s authors are Mildred Taylor, Patricia Polacco, and Beverly Clearly. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and spending time with my family and friends.
Mrs. Carole Ebert
My love of reading began as a young girl when I spent many hours enjoying all kinds of books, especially ones about horses! I have fond memories of listening to my mother and grandmother read to me and of sharing favorite books with my friends. I graduated from the College of Charleston in South Carolina with a degree in elementary education and began teaching in Norfolk, VA. As a military spouse, I had the good fortune to live and teach in many areas of the country. After moving to Arlington, I received in a master’s degree in reading education from the University of Virginia. I’ve been teaching in APS since 2000. In addition to reading, I enjoy gardening, antiquing, visiting interesting places around Washington, DC, and spending time with my two grandsons.
